In a world where cities are growing faster than green spaces can keep up, Helix Pflanzensysteme GmbH is proving that nature and urban development don’t have to compete. Founded in 2009, the German-based company has become a leader in vertical greening and immediate green solutions for dense urban environments. Their approach blends technical innovation, sustainability, and a deep understanding of ecological challenges, especially those intensified by climate change and rapid urbanisation.
HELIX develops and markets technically sophisticated green systems — from façade greening and green noise barriers to slope greening and mobile, temporary installations. What sets them apart is their ability to translate research-driven insights into real-world solutions, creating not only visually appealing greenery but also functioning ecological infrastructures. Their team works closely with clients at every step: planning, installation, plant care, and the ongoing management of automated irrigation systems to ensure thriving year-round vegetation.

Their impact is evident across Germany. Major projects include the Fraunhofer Campus in Stuttgart-Vaihingen, where HELIX installed a 200 m² biodiversity-focused green wall hosting more than 6,000 plants and specialised habitat structures. The result: a thriving micro-ecosystem attracting bees, butterflies, birds, and even bats. In Göttingen, they designed and installed 400 m² of vertical greenery for the Amedes Group, integrating a fully automated irrigation and frost-protection system for challenging south-facing facades.
HELIX’s commitment to innovation and ecological design has earned them significant recognition, including the Facade Greening of the Year 2025 (BuGG), the DGNB Sustainability Challenge Biodiversity Award, and participation in the German Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka.
With each project, HELIX demonstrates how engineered green systems can reconnect cities to nature —cooling buildings, supporting biodiversity, and making urban environments healthier and more resilient.
