Towards Blueprints for interventions and instruments in Policy & Regulation, Finance & Investment, Technology, and Social Change

The modern economy is associated with the systematic exploitation and mismanagement of the natural world, making it urgent to identify ways of activating and leveraging drivers of transformational change towards a Nature-Positive Economy (NPE).

This GoNaturePositive! milestone sets out a framework and methodology for doing so, focusing on four specific drivers: government policy, finance and investment, technology, and social change. It diagnoses the barriers holding each back, from fragmented governance and weak regulatory signals, to limited project bankability and difficulties valuing nature-related benefits, to gaps in social legitimacy, participation and trust, and identifies the openings for shifting towards alternative development paths.

Building on this analysis, the next stage will develop and test practical instruments, including the Policy Self Assessment Tool and Policy and Regulation Blueprint (applied across 60+ cities and regions through the Nature-Positive Pioneer Programme), a Bankability Toolbox to mobilise private finance, actionable initiatives on technological turning points, and a Social Change Blueprint tested through sectoral roadmap workshops and the Ghent Food Act case.

Together, these Blueprints aim to translate insight into implementation evidence and to mobilise the interactions and synergies between drivers needed for a durable transition to a Nature-Positive Economy.
