Spotlight on Nature-based Enterprise: Marine Spark X

Published on June 24, 2026

Sea urchins are overgrazing kelp forests along the Norwegian coast, creating underwater deserts where lush ecosystems once stood. Marine Spark X was founded to give value to the biomass removed from restoration and harvesting areas by converting an ecological and resource challenge into a partner-based marine ingredient value chain, starting in Northern Norway and entering premium Asian health and nutrition markets.

The business model is deliberately partner-based: Marine Spark X does not need to own every part of the value chain. Instead, the company coordinates raw material access, processing, documentation and market entry through existing partners. Coastal harvesting of sea urchins from restoration and harvesting areas runs through partners and local actors. Industrial processing draws on existing marine ingredient infrastructure and production partners to support scale-up. And market entry begins in South Korea, supported by a local importer partner and HFF approval.

ArcticUNI is the first commercial product from the value chain, available as ingredient powder, bulk capsules and white-label formats, designed for the premium nutraceuticals segment in Asian markets.

Marine Spark X is now moving from validation to repeatable commercial delivery. The challenge is no longer only proving that the ingredient can be made, but making the value chain reliable enough for customers and investors: scaling supply and production without losing quality control, converting HFF approval into distribution and repeat sales in South Korea, securing the right distributor and building trust around a new marine ingredient, and moving from first product traction toward a broader marine ingredient platform.
